The Miner chronicles one person’s epiphany and refusal to continue wrecking himself and the earth. To create this video, Filastine teamed up with cinematographer Astu Prasidya and Jakarta street dancer Al Imran Karim. Together they descended into clouds of poisonous gas to film among the workers in the Kawah Ijen sulfur mines of Java. Our character escapes this hell, but trapped in the wheel of life he is reborn working in the coal pits. Indonesia is the world’s largest exporter of coal, most of which comes from the island of Borneo. Here Filastine & team infiltrated a coal mine disguised in company uniforms, even managing to stage the main dance piece on a helicopter landing pad before being caught and interrogated.
